In 2011, University of California, Berkeley has established the Berkeley Education Alliance for Research in Singapore (BEARS) center. BEARS was set up as a non-profit company which was incorporated in Singapore and managed in Berkeley.

Our collaboration with NTU includes with its researchers and The Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N) For The Singapore-Berkeley Building Efficiency and Sustainability in the Tropics (SinBerBEST) and The Singapore-Berkeley Research Initiative for Sustainable Energy (SinBeRISE) programs. ERI@N envisions itself as a leading research institute for innovative energy solutions. Its focus is on sustainable energy, energy efficiency/ infrastructure, and socio-economic aspects of energy research.
