Channel NewsAsia: SinBerBEST Smart Technologies
In August 2018, Channel NewsAsia highlighted key smart technologies developed by SinBerBEST that will be deployed in Singapore’s first energy generating building in collaboration with the Building Construction Authority (BCA). SinBerBEST will build a living laboratory that showcases smart building technologies and solutions such as elevated air movement and increased temperature set-point air-conditioning, demand control ventilation, occupancy positioning, personalised environment setting, plug load monitoring and control and daylight-assisted Power over Ethernet (PoE) lighting, visualising an “Office of the Future”. More than 1,000 sensors and monitoring devices will be installed to provide real-time data of occupancy and system performance. The data will be fed into a smart building management system that adjusts air-conditioning, lighting and power controls to optimise energy usage while providing a comfortable environment for its occupants. In the media piece, Professor Costas Spanos provided an interview advocating for the use of smart technologies to increase building energy efficiency and occupant satisfaction. This research collaboration helps to serve the overall BCA project to transform the existing ZEB building into a Positive Energy Building. The media piece can be found here.
